These Monsters - Call Me Dragon
Written by Administrator

these monstersThese Monsters hail from Leeds, UK. The quartet has been around for three years now and Call me Dragon is their debut album.

These lads play a fierce and progressive mix of styles and I guess they will have a bright future ahead of them because this is one of the most interesting records from the UK in a while. Call Me Dragon grabs you instantly with its vicious riffs and a loudness you can't ignore. Their experimental post-rock is vibrant and full of pressure, as well as wild style changes. Avantgarde meets Jazz meets Postrock meets Psychedelic noiserock. Vocals are rare and if they are used, they are far away and mostly distorted. Their special thingy is the use of a saxophone - I hate saxophones - but they really pull it off. It fits perfectly, it's not even annoying (except for the part in Space Ritual, which is just too much for me) and they use it quite well.

To make a complicated thing short: thunderous bass, hyperactive drumming, hyperactive guitarist with a thing for big riffs and a saxophone make a great freaked-out avantgarde Postrock/Jazz/Noise band. I like.
