Gathiens - Nesh

gathiensNice one! I adore a lot between doom, so called avant- or post-metal, sludge and Post-rock. But lately a lot of crap was flooding the speakers just because some bands seem to think it is easy to play everything a bit slower and monotonous and voila, you sound like Isis or Mono.

But the hard part of that is: being a bit slower and yes, even monotonous but all of that without being boring or repetetive. The true art in that is bringing up emotions, expressing things and being unique. And most importantly, being able of building tension and keep somebodies attention. Gathiens is definitely able of doing that. Their post-rock sound is very earthy and calm, although their drummer plays pretty technical most of the time. Most of the tracks are at mid-tempo and never too bombastic or overly excessive. The guitars are mostly very dynamic and ostensible, the songs experimental and often have a jamsession touch to them -  the soundscapes and feedbacks are used wisely and are nicely woven into the songs. The atmosphere is both warm and gloomy.

I am very happy that this was released by Murkhouse after all, because it was originally recorded for private purposes. For all postrock fans who like some diversity and quality. Very, very nice.
